SIMILARITIES BETWEEN MALARIA AND CHIKUNGUNYA

MALARIA

Malaria is often occurred by the bite of ‘female anopheles’ mosquito. The mosquito usually resides in the dirty, stagnant, unclear water as well as surroundings.

Now, identification of the disease can be a difficult task. In most cases, manifestations of malaria will begin 8-25 days later the mosquito bite which is the reason that the initially prescribed laboratory test doesn’t yield the appropriate result for quite a long time.

High fever is the for-most sign which one might develop commonly. The body temperature may reach as high as 104’F. This may often be accompanied with chills which allow muscles to burn and thereupon increase the temperature.

Suffocation, sweating or shivering, drowsiness, jaundice and difficulty in breathing have been noticed among commonly in malaria patients.

As soon as you recognise any of the above symptoms, immediately get your diagnosis done.

Malaria, usually, does not have specific symptoms so, it may be difficult to diagnose.

CHIKUNGUNYA

Fatal complications are extremely rare in chikungunya. The diagnosis in this disease is helped by simple tests in the blood and urine. The total leukocyte count is lower in chikungunya. As the kidneys are invariably affected in leptospirosis, urine examination in these cases would show abnormalities.

Any patient with the following signs should immediately himself diagnosed through the prescribed medical and laboratory tests:

Hypotension (drop in blood pressure)

Bleeding

High fever

Breathlessness

Altered sensorium

Decreased urine output

Jaundice

Convulsions
