Zika - A risk to pregnant women

Zika fever is a mosquito-borne viral disease caused by the Zika virus (ZIKV). Symptoms include: fever, rash, headaches, muscle and joint pain, and conjunctivitis, which lasts 2-7 days. It is a rare and relatively benign virus; more than 80% of those affected don’t develop symptoms, which is why it has not been worrisome.

But, in the case that one does show symptoms of the fever, it can be a troublesome disease, especially for pregnant women. Studies have shown that this virus can be transmitted from the mother to the child during pregnancy. It can lead to a pregnancy loss or a baby born with conditions that include an abnormally small head and brain.

According to research , the Zika virus can also cause glaucoma in infants who were exposed to the virus in the uterus. It has also been linked to other problems such as hearing loss, vision problems and impaired growth in babies.

Hence, it is very important for would-be mothers to take care and protect themselves from the Zika virus. The best form of protection would be to keep mosquitoes away as they are the ones who spread the virus. This is where a mosquito spray like Kala HIT comes into the picture. Spray Kala HIT every day in your house and keep the mosquitoes away.
